for everyone

I've finally done it but after 20 over years of wearing glasses, I put my eyes in the capable hands of Dr Julian Theng at the Eagle Eye Centre in Mount Alvernia and went for LASIK. Today, as they say, was my first day of being able to see without my glasses.

Life's quite funny. Alot of people know me as being too intellectually snooty to fall for something as shallow as cosmetic surgery like lasik but I guess, since I work for the manufacturer of the mashine and helped the opthalomologist publicise his practice, it was probably a matter of sooner rather than later when I decided to actually test the product for myself. Lasik treatment is comming at a very welcome price - paying primarily for the facility fee and Alcon were very kind to sponsor the eye drops.

Left eye is a bit sore and dry and the eyes remain exceedingly sensetive to sunlight. A little bit like Count Duckula after a bit too much to drink.Have been spending the past few hours pouring various eye drops into my eyes to ensure that the inflamation goes down and the dryness stops. Focus varies on a few occasions but by and large, my eye sight is surprisingly good. Neil, the organiser of Singapore's Holistic Living Festival even went as far as to comment that I look quit a bit younger without the specs - though he did remark that after a dose of artificial tears, it did look like I was crying.

Julian was really good. Very gentle with the eyes. Took a grand total of something like 8 miniutes per eye. One of his assistents, Jeslyn is cute too

After effects of surgery were a little painful and walking around town was chronically unfun, particularly when my pupils had dialated and so I could not see things close up. To those who have presbyopia, I guess I will have to be more sympathetic towards you. In fact my eyes were in such a bad shape, the Fat Puppy decided that she better send me home rather than attend a new business meeting I've been trying to pass her way. - Really sweet of her, I suddenly realise she's a human being and not an automaton to make fun off when it suits me.

Anyway, life with what Kuntal, Alcon's GM, calls "Spectacle Freedome" will be an interesting concept, which I shall have to discover in the next few days. Will let you know more.
